Blue Nose Go to Elvington

Hector McGuinness decided it would be a good idea to race at Elvington near York.  Many great legends had started out here.  They heard that John Batty, the ‘Scarborough Legend’ would be making an appearance.

who’s that then?’Asks Poppy scratching his head.

‘Bagpus’ says Hector.  ‘Oh’ said Poppy in awe.

As usual, they hitched a ride with Zoe and parked their van up in the paddock.  At the top so Nellie, the head technition wouldn’t have far to push the bike.  They haven’t managed to get  an awning yet so they put the bike into Bagpus’s gazebo.

Next to Salt, the Sv650 twin.  They hadn’t put their entry in because they were skint, so they borrowed bagpus’s scrutineering card!!

‘it’s a bit big for the bike!’ Spanner exclaimed, ‘ and its got Bagpus’ number on it!’

‘Just cross it out, nobody will notice.’ Suggested Hector.  Off they went to scrutineering.Barbara checked out Poppy’s clothing.

She liked his red jumper a lot, but she suggested that race leathers, a crash helmet, some boots and a pair of gloves would be better!  Hector said that they were saving up for them, Poppy would be ok because he was soft in the head anyway, nobody would know the difference if he fell off!!

Poppy threatedned to show him how soft he was!

Then they hit a problem.

Paul had to fail the bike because it didn’t have a shark fin on! Poppy didn’t know what that was.  He checked it out with Hector. He said that they didn’t have one, but they had a cod fin.  If they put it on upside down they would never notice the difference.

Poppy and Nellie chatted up the other scrutineer while Paul re-inspected the bike.  It passed.

They shuffled off to signing on before he noticed it was a cod fin and not a shark fin.

Poppy signs on with Anne, while Janet didn’t look too impressed.  Poppy said it was because she didn’t like Greeks.  Nellie said that it was ok because he was from Crete!!

When they got back, Hector said that they needed some tyre warmers and fuel.

Bday and spanner turned up with a set of tyre warmers with Nellie.  Hector said that they were a bit big!! Poppy said they would be ok if it started to get cold. He could wrap himself and the bike in it.  Tunis reconed he wouldn’t be able to see.  Hector mumbled that it wouldn’t make much difference anyway.  Poppy wasn’t impressed.  He went off for wonder around the paddock.  He met a star rider!! Guy Plater, of international stardom just mooching around the paddock.  He claimed to have started off at Elvington.  He took Poppy on a walk around the track to give him some tips.

Hector went off to find some fuel.  Guy said that he had found some.

Poppy thought that Bagpus wouldn’t be too impressed if Salt was empty !

Hector appeared with some mistery fuel out of a yellow and blue can marked ‘Diesel Only’.

He wouldn’t tell them where he’d got it.  Only that Zoe had helped out.

Oh dear, they put it in and the bike spluttered and died!!

No racing for Poppy!! They had put the wrong fuel in!!

Next minute Hector rounded up the troops and found some tools to repair the bike but unfortunately not in time to get out on the track.

Better luck next time Poppy!

I wonder where they got them from??

Look behind you Bagpus!!

Next stop the Manx GP.
